Fix YouTube, Disney Plus, My5, and ITV not working or loading on Sky Glass with 8 hacks

Sky Glass comes with many exciting streaming apps that offer TV shows, movies, documentaries, live content, and more. But they may not always work, load, or give you a black screen, and sometimes, error messages. Let’s fix these problems the right way.

Why won’t my apps work on Sky Glass?

How to make YouTube, Disney Plus, ITV, and My5 apps load and work on my Sky Glass?

To fix YouTube, DisneyPlus, My5 (Channel 5), and ITV and make them work, load, or open on your Sky Glass, perform a hard reboot by unplugging it at the mains for a couple of minutes. If this fails, go to Settings > System management > Resets and updates > and select Refresh apps

1. Restart or power cycle

The software in your Sky Glass is pretty glitchy, and this alone might be the reason you are experiencing a loading error or black screen while opening the apps.

Open Settings, and from there, navigate to System Management > Resets & Updates. Here, select Restart Device. Now, your TV will take about 3 minutes to fully reboot. In the meantime, you’ll see the black screen most often. After that, launch any of the problematic apps and see if this helped.

In case this didn’t work, do a quick power cycle this way:

  1. Turn off the TV and remove all cables from the back of it.
  2. Unplug the power cable from the main outlet as well and wait 2-3 minutes.
  3. Reattach all the cables and again wait for a few seconds.
  4. Then, press the Power button to turn on the TV, open the app, and see if it starts streaming.

2. Fix your router and IP

Sometimes, Sky Glass has internet access, but the network may experience slow speeds and poor Wi-Fi signals. The fix is to just move the router closer to the TV. If this fails, reboot it or use an Ethernet cable to connect it to the TV. Also, try disabling Wi-Fi on other nearby devices to provide more bandwidth for streaming apps.

There could also be an ISP IP address blocking. First, connect the TV to your mobile phone’s hotspot data. If the app loads successfully now, your home broadband IP is definitely blacklisted by Disney Plus, ITV, or My5.

3. Check internet connectivity

YouTube, Disney Plus, My5, ITV, and other apps often fail to open or load content if the Sky Glass simply won’t connect to the internet. To confirm this:

  1. Grab the remote and press the Home button to access the main menu.
  2. Go to Settings > Set Up > Network and confirm the network connection to the TV.
  3. If not, select one and type in the Wi-Fi login credentials and open the apps again.

4. Update TV software

Sky Glass running on outdated firmware is often the primary reason many streaming apps fail to work at all. So, make sure the TV software is up-to-date with these steps:

  1. Press Home on the remote and head to Settings > System Management
  2. Navigate to  Reset and Updates.
  3. Select Updates and then press Check for Updates.
  4. If a new one is available, choose Update to download and install it.
  5. Now, open an app to see if the issue is gone.

5. Clear the app cache by refreshing it

Next, you may want to try refreshing the apps and clearing their cache data.

  1. Press Home on your Sky Glass remote.
  2. Head to Settings and press OK.
  3. Select System Management and then Resets and Updates.
  4. Choose Refresh Apps and wait for the process to complete.
  5. Relaunch any app and confirm if this fixes the issue.

For ITV app, open it and just press the 0 0 0 0 7 7 7 buttons in this exact order on your remote to clear its cache.

INFO: Refreshing is a kind of reset, and this will erase all saved data on the Sky Glass apps.

6. Factory reset Sky Glass

If the issue still persists and you cannot access YouTube on Sky Glass, try factory resetting it. To do this:

  1. Using the Sky Glass remote, navigate to the Settings option.
  2. Select System Management.
  3. Choose Resets and Updates.
  4. Click Factory Reset.
  5. Confirm the action on the prompt screen and wait for your Sky Glass to perform the reset.
  6. Once the reset is complete, reconfigure your Sky Glass TV and then open the YouTube app to see if it’s working correctly.

7. Resubscribe directly from Disney+

You may be experiencing the issue if you have subscribed to the Disney Plus service through Sky Glass. If so, a quick workaround is to unsubscribe from it here, head to their website, and resubscribe from there.

The best part is that after subscribing to the service directly, you can log in to the Disney app on any device and stream content without any issues. While at it, it is possible to sign up for special deals, which may cost less than what you are paying through Sky.

8. Check the Service Status

When any of the streaming services is down, the app won’t open, or the content won’t load on any device, including Sky Glass. To confirm this, go to their support site and verify whether they are experiencing an outage. You can also check the comments section below to see if other users are facing the same issue.

Once confirmed, the only thing left to do is wait patiently until the problem is fixed at their end and the servers are back up and running. Usually, this may take a few hours to a whole day.

Are there problems with Sky Glass?

Apart from apps not loading on Sky Glass, users have complained about several other problems, like lip-sync issues. This causes a delay between the audio and video signals, resulting in a noticeable discrepancy between the two.

On top of that, picture lock-ups are also a common problem, and they occur when the TV freezes or becomes unresponsive. The primary causes are software glitches, hardware problems, or internet connectivity issues.
