How to fix your Sky Glass remote not working with new batteries

Your Sky Glass comes with a responsive, cute little remote that has a ton of functions, along with voice commands. But it is frustrating when it fails to turn on the TV because it just won’t connect after a reset or with new batteries. The voice feature also doesn’t accept your verbal commands. Luckily, there are some quick workarounds for these problems.

Why is my Sky Glass remote not working after changing batteries?

If your Sky Glass remote is unresponsive after replacing the batteries, it likely needs to be manually reset and re-paired to your TV. It is also possible that the remote has lost its connection (Bluetooth pairing), or the fresh batteries haven’t been seated properly.

How do I fix an unresponsive Sky remote after changing batteries?

To fix your Sky Glass remote after a battery change, you need to reset and re-pair it. This resolves almost all unresponsiveness after changing the power source. If the issue persists, re-pair the Bluetooth connection or power cycle your TV by turning it off for 30 seconds.

1. Replace bad batteries

The most common reason the Sky Glass remote won’t connect, or work is bad batteries that don’t supply enough juice to power it on, perform normal functions, or initiate the pairing process via Bluetooth.

To confirm this, cover the front of the remote, and check if you see the light behind the buttons. If so, the batteries are good to go; otherwise, replace them with the new AAA alkaline ones and try again.

2. Check the battery compartment

A new Sky Glass remote comes with a paper wedged in the battery compartment to protect it in storage. While replacing the old batteries with new ones, you may have forgotten to take that piece out. This results in interference, and the remote won’t connect to the TV and becomes unresponsive.

To fix this issue, open the back cover of the remote and pull out the wedged paper. Reinsert the batteries and verify that all the buttons are operating as usual.

3. Pair the remote correctly after resetting

Your Sky Glass needs to pair with the remote via Bluetooth for accurate connectivity. If you fail to do this after changing the batteries, it simply won’t work.

There is no dedicated physical reset button on a Sky Glass remote. So after switching the TV on, do these steps:

  1. Press the 7 and 9 buttons on the remote for 3 seconds to reset it.
  2. Then, press the 1 and 3 buttons and hold them for another 3 seconds to put the remote into the pairing mode.
  3. Wait for the Connected message to show up on the TV screen.
  4. Select Continue.

4. Reset the Bluetooth pairing

If you see a Connect your remote message on the TV display after pairing the remote, the process is unsuccessful. To fix this, press the 4 and 6 buttons on the remote, and hold them for 3 seconds to reset just the Bluetooth connection.  Then, do the pairing again until you see Connected on the screen.

You can only pair one remote to your Sky Glass, so ensure you are not trying to sync a second one; otherwise, the steps will fail.

5. Power reset the TV

Temporary software glitches can also be the reason for the issue here. However, you can easily overcome this by power resetting the TV. Here’s how:

  1. Press the Standby button on the TV.
  2. Plug out the power cable from the main to switch off the TV.
  3. Wait 30 seconds and plug the power cable back into the main socket.
  4. Once the TV boots up by itself, press any button on the Sky Glass remote and see if it works now.

Why has my voice control stopped working on my Sky Glass remote?

The voice control feature on the remote may fail to work if it is not paired to Sky Glass or if you don’t have an active subscription. To fix it, make sure you are already on a plan and then pair the remote to the TV correctly, starting by resetting it first.
